The Patrol
By Dave Emmerson

Walking along country roads
Eyes darting left and right
Stand up, kneel down
Hearts pounding at every sound
Dogs barking in distance farms
Animals moving in the fields
Radio crackling in your ear
Hands sweating upon your gun
Alert, Alert, Man Down, Man Down
cries the voice in the radio
Adrenlin rushes through your body
As you wait for more reports
Rushing though ragged fields
surging streams charge past
bushes and fences jumped
need to get there quick
Body lying on ground
Blood rolling down the road
Checking for signs of breathing
Hoping you are not late
Nothing now left to do
another soldiers gone
another innocent victim
of a another pointless war
