She did not fool me
By George Whithead

Her face was full of laughter but she did not fool me
I could see her heart was breaking it was as plain as could be
I could see all that pain beneath such a pretty face
She was a good wife and mother and that was no disgrace
She was married to a man who did not play the game
She never thought it would be like that when she took his name
But she can laugh all she likes she can dance with glee
Sometimes I think she knows that she did not fool me
