Memories

By Kathleen Potter

Today I travelled the path of my youth
The road and the buildings I remember so well
From six to sixteen I traversed the area
How the memories came flooding back.

The people I knew, the friends that I cherished
Days spent at Marsden or Blackberry Hills,
Sunshine, sea and sand on Camels Island,
Picnics - Evans lemonade, tomato. egg, and sand.

Then life changed dramatically
In the twinkling of an eye we were gone.
Childhood was over - never to return
A new chapter, a new life had begun.

But over the years the memories remain
Of the fun and the friendship of long ago days
When the going gets tough or simply frustrating
Those cameos of halcyon days are there to console me.
